The Beauty of a Day Job

The Beauty of a Day Job

How a day job can change your ACTING CAREER.

As you complete your side work at the end of a busy bartending shift, do you often think…

…”If only I could quit this stupid job?”

Or maybe you make your cash as a personal assistant or as a nanny.

Whatever it is…

…most of us have resented the shit out of our day jobs at some point.

But here’s my thinking:

WE NEED TO APPRECIATE AND LOVE THE DAY JOB!

A few weeks ago a client of ours told us a great story:

Her name is Ana.

Ana has been working in the same restaurant in Beverly Hills for 2 1/2 years.

She works four shifts a week and makes pretty good money.

The job allows Anna flexibility as an actor.

When Ana has an audition, she can always get another waiter to cover for her.

The job makes Anna not feel desperate.

She knows she will be able to pay her rent.

She can afford acting classes.

She feels in control.

When Ana auditions, she doesn’t reek of I NEED THIS SO BAD!!!

Last month,  Ana was waiting on one of her regulars – a woman named Sylvia.

Sylvia always requests Ana’s station because Ana is warm and competent.

Sylvia often asks Ana how her acting career is going.

Ana is open but respectful of waitress/customer boundaries.

Unbeknownst to Ana, Sylvia is a TV producer.

Sylvia had recently been in a meeting at the studio in which they were talking about the new character they needed to cast on the show – a waitress.

They wanted someone likable and kind.

Someone soft and outgoing, but professional and confident.

They were having a tough time finding the perfect person.

Guess who came to Sylvia’s mind?

Boom!

Next week, our likable and kind client Ana is guest-starring on a big NBC primetime show.

This would not have happened if Ana was not out in the world!

If Ana hadn’t embraced her life.

If Ana hadn’t embraced her day job.

If Ana was desperate.

So don’t hate on your day job.

It might be just exactly what you need.
