It’s a question many of us have when we first arrive in LA…
How do we make the transition to ON CAMERA WORK?
You’ve been on many a stage.
But what’s up with the ILLUSIVE world of film and television?
How do you get in THAT game??
It’s not always easy but there are tricks.
TARGET one or two casting directors who cast projects that are RIGHT FOR YOU. Do what you can to get in front of your TARGETS:
The more these targets know YOUR face, the better chance you have of them calling you in.
#2 Create Your Own
Write and shoot a web series, a short film, or something for Youtube. It doesn’t have to be fancy, it doesn’t have to be high tech, but you gotta do it. (Click HERE to listen to more TIPS on CREATING YOUR OWN WORK.)
#3 Background Work
The closer you are to the set, the better chance you have of getting on camera. Go to Central Casting, and sign up to be a background actor if you haven’t already. Here’s the trick: when you’re working as a background actor, be a consummate professional. Stay in view of the director, don’t be buried in your phone, know what’s going on, be dressed appropriately, and be on time. WHY? Because the more professional you are, the better your chance of being upgraded. It happens every day, somewhere in Hollywood! (Click HERE to find out which HOLLYWOOD ACTORS started in BACKGROUND WORK.)
Most importantly, just KEEP AT IT.
You don’t have to know HOW it’s going to happen, just trust that IT WILL HAPPEN.
You know what they say: Showing up is 90%.
Show up, and you will be working on camera before you know it.
